Thank You, LD9! I’m Proud to Serve You for Another Term (video)

LD9 election results for 2020

Thank you so much, LD9 voters, for making me the top vote getter in the 2020 Primary Election and the 2020 General Election. I particularly want to thank my grassroots volunteers who worked tirelessly to help me win re-election.

It was an extremely difficult year for humankind, but you persevered to help many Democrats win– including the LD9 team of Senator Victoria Steele, Rep. Randy Friese and me. Oh, yes, and Joe Biden!

I was his target, and you helped me beat him. The final count is PPH 64,781, Rep. Randy Friese 64,772 and Brendan Lyons 48,026.  OK, I beat Friese by only nine votes, but I beat Lyons by 17,755 votes.

Big money and endorsements provided by the Chamber of Commerce, insurance company PACs, the police PAC, developers, and others who want another reliable Republican vote for privatization and tax giveaways lost to a Progressive Clean Elections candidate with a people-centered campaign, a strong voice, and an independent voting record.

I could not have done this without your grassroots support.

In the pre-COVID era, you hosted house parties, which were invaluable for meeting voters and for collecting signatures, $5 contributions for Clean Elections, and seed money. You collected signatures and $5s on your own while I was at the Capitol in early 2020.

You bundled and labeled literature. You stamped, addressed and personalized postcards. You organized events and people. You amplified my campaign messages on social media.

You helped the LD9 team distribute palm cards by doing no-contact lit drops in nearly every precinct in the district in just a few months.

You worked really hard this year for the big wins the Democratic Party achieved in 2020 — including electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as president and vide president.

Take care of yourselves. WEAR A MASK. I’ll be looking for you on RTS in the coming session.

Happy New Year! Thank You!

On Democracy Now recently, filmmaker and activist Michael Moore said voters want politicians who “won’t sell out” to special interests when they get into office.

Constituents have written to me and asked if I accept donations from the fossil fuel industry or the private prison industry or utility companies. I don’t accept donations from any of them, and I also don’t accept donations from Dirty Money political action committees, Planned Parenthood, unions, or corporate people. Running as a Clean Elections candidate I am free from special interest groups and the big money politics that swirls around me at the Capital.

Many thanks to everyone who everyone who answered my Christmas Eve Facebook post about wrapping up my Clean Elections Qualifying Contributions before the session starts on January 13, 2020. I need a minimum if 200 $5 donations (plus overage) from people in my district to qualify for public financing.

I currently have 215 $5 donations. I am over 200, but I need 230 to ensure a sufficient cushion (in case some are unreadable or otherwise disqualified). We can do this. The 2020 session will be a wild ride. I want to focus on you… the voters… while I am in Phoenix… not on campaigning.

Powers for the People volunteers
In 2019, my Postcard Party volunteers assembled, stamped, and labeled two mailings to voters and repurposed 1000s of 2018 palm cards for 2020 canvassing.

Many thanks to LD9 supporters who donated $5. I could not have done this without stalwart volunteers Lori Cinnamond, Barbara Warren, Jenise Pace Porter, Beth Britton and Alma Byrd who each took a stack of blank forms and returned them with $5s and to my husband Jim Hannley for cycling around Midtown with me collecting signatures and $5s. Also, I can’t forget the early work of my Postcard Party volunteers who helped with mass mailings to past $5 donors and who repurposed old 2018 campaign lit for 2020 canvassing. (Clean candidates are frugal.)

There’s still time to donate $5 and sign my petition if you live in LD9 and to donate seed money if you want to help but don’t live in LD9. All of the links are in this blog post.

Watch the Events tab on my Facebook page for canvassing opportunities beginning Saturday, January 4. I still need more signatures, and the temperatures are mild for walking the neighborhoods.

Thank you and Happy New Year. It has been an honor to serve you.

October Is Hopping with Multiple Events

Bike Canvassing

As usual around here, when the temperatures cool down, our calendars fill up.

I have been shuttling between Tucson and Phoenix for Legislative meetings, as well participating in community events down here in Tucson. I was proud to stand with striking nurses who want to protect patients by lowering patient to nurse ratios. I was inspired by the youth and other Tucsonans who showed up for the Youth Climate Strike in downtown Tucson. And I was thankful to my Postcard Party volunteers for mailing and labeling 2020 campaign materials.

There are more events coming up in October.

October 6: LD9 Gathering: Meet Legislators & Friends in LD9

The Legislative District 9 precinct committee people have organized a gathering at the Woods Memorial Library on Sunday afternoon, October 6, from 2-4 p.m. at the Woods Memorial Library (3455 N. 1st Ave.) Senator Victoria Steele and I will be there to give an update and talk with constituents. If you haven’t signed my petition for re-election or given me $5 for Clean Elections, you can do so at at The Gathering. Facebook event here.

October 8: Honest Arizona Health Care Town Hall

I am honored to participate in Honest Arizona’s Health Care Town Hall on Tuesday, October 8 with Congressman Ron Barber and others. The event is at The Core at La Encantada (2905 E. Skyline Dr., Suite 277).

Republicans on the state and federal levels have been attacking the Affordable Care Act and promoting junk insurance plans. Rep. Kelli Butler and I debated valiantly against multiple types of junk insurance during Health and Human Services Committee meetings and on the floor of the House.

Health insurance coverage should be more inclusive and more affordable. Facebook link for tickets here.

Meet My Guests for Opening Day 2019 at the Legislature (video)

The speeches droned on during the opening day session at the Arizona House on Monday, January 14, 2019. As a result, about half of the members were unable to introduce their guests. I think the introduction of guests is actually one of the most fascinating parts of opening day because you get to see who people chose to bring to the capital and how they introduce them. Since I did not get to introduce my guests, the first video of this session is my introduction of four LD9 precinct committee people who were my guests on the floor of the house yesterday.

Sprinting Toward the Finish Line: Events!

Rep. Randy Friese, Senator Steve Farley, and Rep. Pamela Powers Hannley

Today is Sept 22.

Nov 8– Election Day– sounds far away, but it’s only 47 days away.

Oct 12– the day that early voting begins in Arizona– is only 20 days away.

Please help Randy and me stop the Tea Party from taking a foothold in LD9. Vote for two on Nov. 8 and help us cross the finish line victorious. Arizona doesn’t need another anti-choice, anti-access-to-healthcare, pro-gun, pro-school-vouchers-for-all, silent-on-the-issues Tea Partier in the Arizona Legislature. #VoteForTwo #VoteBlue

Leading up to Election Day, there are several events and volunteer opportunities.

Erin Burton, our wonderful ADLCC field organizer, has organized a weekend of LD9 Weekend of Action for this coming weekend for LD9 candidates (pictured above Rep. Randy Friese, Senator Steve Farley, and me).  Jim and I will be at the canvass both days, and I hope some of our regular volunteers will also help out.

#PowersForThePeople CAMPAIGN T-SHIRTS will be available for volunteers at the weekend canvasses and at the Volunteer Appreciation Party (below).

Saturday, Sept 24– 10 a.m. start
La Madera Park (2700 E La Madera Dr., in midtown).
Sunday, Sept 25– 11 a.m. start
Democratic Party Headquarters (4639 E. First St.)

To RSVP contact Erin Burton at 270-978-7866.

Sept 25: #PowersForThePeople Volunteer Appreciation Party
On Sunday, Sept 25,  my good friend Merrill Eisenberg is hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Party at her home in midtown. The house party will be from 4-6 p.m. Please stop by for some great snacks, a cool beverage, and great conversation. The campaign t-shirts will be available to the first 48 people who volunteer this weekend. Please help me win! If you can’t attend, please consider volunteering. You can sign up to receive updates from my campaign here.  (Don’t wory, since I am running clean, I won’t spam you with donation requests.)

Upcoming Events: Canvasing & House Party Schedule (video)

There has been a whirlwind of political and community events in recent months.

It has been great meeting and talking with so many of you who have been out and about at Democrats of Greater Tucson meetings, LD9 meetings, Arizona List events, the Tanque Verde Democrats Women Candidates Forum, the St. Patrick’s Day Democratic Party Party, and, of course, at Give Me $5 House Parties in February, Marc, and today. (Check out the photo albums on my Facebook page here.)
