October Is Hopping with Multiple Events

Bike Canvassing

As usual around here, when the temperatures cool down, our calendars fill up.

I have been shuttling between Tucson and Phoenix for Legislative meetings, as well participating in community events down here in Tucson. I was proud to stand with striking nurses who want to protect patients by lowering patient to nurse ratios. I was inspired by the youth and other Tucsonans who showed up for the Youth Climate Strike in downtown Tucson. And I was thankful to my Postcard Party volunteers for mailing and labeling 2020 campaign materials.

There are more events coming up in October.

October 6: LD9 Gathering: Meet Legislators & Friends in LD9

The Legislative District 9 precinct committee people have organized a gathering at the Woods Memorial Library on Sunday afternoon, October 6, from 2-4 p.m. at the Woods Memorial Library (3455 N. 1st Ave.) Senator Victoria Steele and I will be there to give an update and talk with constituents. If you haven’t signed my petition for re-election or given me $5 for Clean Elections, you can do so at at The Gathering. Facebook event here.

October 8: Honest Arizona Health Care Town Hall

I am honored to participate in Honest Arizona’s Health Care Town Hall on Tuesday, October 8 with Congressman Ron Barber and others. The event is at The Core at La Encantada (2905 E. Skyline Dr., Suite 277).

Republicans on the state and federal levels have been attacking the Affordable Care Act and promoting junk insurance plans. Rep. Kelli Butler and I debated valiantly against multiple types of junk insurance during Health and Human Services Committee meetings and on the floor of the House.

Health insurance coverage should be more inclusive and more affordable. Facebook link for tickets here.

October 12 & 26: Canvassing for Signatures

It’s been a year since the #PowersForThePeople canvassers have hit the streets, but it’s time to break out the walking shoes and clip board and hit the streets.

The kick off canvass will be Saturday, October 12 and the follow-up canvass will be October 26.

Both events will begin at 9 a.m. at on the patio at Beyond Bread on Campbell. I will be there early to grab breakfast and coffee if you want to join me before we get down to business.

We will be canvassing Midtown to collect signatures and $5 Clean Elections Qualifying Contributions. As always, walkers, bikers and drivers are all welcome. Thanks for your help! Facebook events here and here.

October 22: LD9 Meeting

Legislative District 9’s regular monthly meeting will be Tuesday, October 22 at the Water of Life Church (3269 N. Mountain Ave.) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. If you haven’t signed my petition for re-election or given me $5 for Clean Elections, you can do so at the LD9 meeting. Facebook event here.

House Parties????

I don’t have any house parties scheduled yet for this fall, but I am looking for volunteers to host meet-and-greets with friends and neighbors.  If you are interested in hosting a party at your home, please contact me at p2h@icloud.com or on What’sApp, Facebook Messenger or text. Thanks for your help! Let’s get to know each other better.

Just for fun …

Do you want to learn how to capture and use the rainwater that falls on or flows into your yard? Check out Watershed Management Group’s Homescape Harvest Tour on October 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn from and be inspired by how other Tucsonans have transformed their yards with sustainable landscaping and rainwater harvesting. The tour starts at the WMG HQ in Midtown Tucson. Event details and a link to tickets here.

Stay tuned…

Watch this blog and my Facebook page for updates. I have several important meetings coming up in Phoenix and Tucson — on maternal and child health, prison reform, elder health and water– between now and January.
