In the Arizona House, there has been much discussion regarding how to address bullying online, in school and on college campuses. Unfortunately, although we acknowledge the evils of bullying, it is often on full display on the Floor of the Arizona House.
So many Democratic women were bullied last Thursday in the Arizona House, that I felt compelled to call it out in this video and to give historic examples over the past five years.
On Thursday, multiple times, Rep. Mitzi Epstein was cut off, interrupted and called out of order because the Majority Party doesn’t want YOU (the voters) to hear what she has to say. Rep. Jake Hoffman called me out by name and ridiculed me, and I was cut off when I tried to reply. The Republicans were so disrespectful when Rep. Melody Hernandez tried to read a Black History month commemoration that she had to stop and ask for order on the floor. Rep. Walt Blackman shouted at Rep. Kelli Butler when she tried to debate critical race theory. Rep. Quang Nguyen shouted at Epstein when she tried to ask a question about his anti-communist curriculum to be developed by the Koch Brothers Freedom Schools. Majority Leader Ben Toma and Speaker Pro Tempore Travis Grantham were speaking so loudly at the dias that I could barely hear Rep. Judy Schwiebert, who sits in front of me.
Last Thursday was a bad day for smart women trying to make a point, but they’re not going to shut us up. Our constituents expect us to speak up and fight for them.
