John Nichols of The Nation talks about the hard work that progressives at the turn of the 20th century did and the important Constitutional amendments that they fought for– like direct election of US Senators and the women’s right to vote. He challenges progressives today with a list of new amendments that would help us save our democracy– like ending corporate personhood and denying that money is speech (thus getting money out of politics); guaranteeing the right to vote; and eliminating the Electoral College and allowing direct election of the US President. It’s a good list, but what about the Equal Rights Amendment, too?  (Beverly Hills, June 2013)
