Pamela Powers Hannley, Arizona House
I shot this “Out of Service” image when I was visiting the Arizona State Office Building in downtown Tucson. This is sink in the Women’s Room. One of the building’s elevators was also out of service.
I think Arizona’s government should be “in service” to the public- not “out of service” and out of touch with the voters. I hope you will support my campaign for the Arizona Legislature.

Meet the Women who want to change Arizona. I am honored to participate in the Tanque Verde Democrats’ Women Candidates’ Day Forum. What a great lineup- Ann Kirkpatrick, Victoria Steele, the LD10 Arizona House candidates and me. The TV Dems are a great group. They meet at Risky Business on Saturday morning for coffee, light…

A primary component of my economic reform platform is establishment of public banking at the state, county, and/or municipal levels. In a nutshell, public banking advocates believe that austerity is a lie and that budget-cutting and layoffs by governments is unnecessary and harmful to citizens. There is plenty of money. The problem is that our…

Tucson City Councilwoman Regina Romero is leading the charge to require local businesses to provide paid sick leave for employees. As someone who has been in management for more than 20 years, I fully support paid sick leave and the city’s proposed ordinance. At first glance, paid sick leave appears to be an expense that…
What a hectic and exciting week it has been. Jim and I attended seven events- culminating with the Arizona Democratic Party’s State Committee Meeting and the Arizona Democratic Progressive Caucus Meeting in Kingman on Saturday, January 23. Here is a collage of photos from this week. (For more photos along the campaign trail, check out…
After having spent most of January and February tabling, canvasing, and attending events in Legislative District 9, it’s time to party! February 28 is the first of my “Give Me $5” house parties. It will be held in the Foothills of LD9, at the home of my friends Roberta and Michael Lewis; co-hosts are Barabara…
The Tucson Peace Fair is happening this Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Reid Park Bandshell. My husband Jim and I have tabled at the Peace Fair for many years first with the Progressive Democrats of America and last year as Arizonans for a New Economy (Arizona’s public banking initiative and a member of the Tucson…

The beginning of a New Year is often a time for transitions. On Monday, January 4, 2016, I will make a major life transition as I step down from my 11-year position as Managing Editor for The American Journal of Medicine. Beginning in 2016, I will be working part-time as the Journal’s Social Media/Technology Editor, managing…

Obscene amounts of dark money have flooded US elections since the Supreme Court upheld the Citizens United case and ruled that money = speech. As a progressive, I believe that the voters should choose candidates- not the highest bidder. That’s why I have chosen to run as a Clean Elections candidate. As such, only voters-…
Shortly after Governor Doug Ducey took office in 2015, he infamously said that just because Arizona doesn’t have enough money doesn’t mean we need to raise revenue. In early January, he released a budget that failed to pay back the millions of dollars the Arizona Legislature stole from the education fund when it broke the…

Not ones to let grass grow under our feet, my husband Jim and I attended the Pima Area Labor Federation’s (PALF) 19th Annual Labor Day Picnic. Usually we’re tabling at the Labor Day picnic, but this year, we circulated among the crowds of unionists, family members, and supporters and gathered signatures and $5 Clean Elections…
Today, I officially became a candidate for the Arizona House, representing Legislative District 9. This is the seat which is currently held by Rep. Victoria Steele, who has decided to challenge US Congressional Rep. Martha McSally for Congress. Watch this site for news about this campaign and ways you can help by donating money or…
Tucson was a happening place back in 1981 when I moved here. Earthquakes in California and blizzards in the Midwest had prompted waves of migration to the sun belt. The town was bustling, and everyone was from somewhere else. Opportunity was in the air– as evidenced by all of the things that started in the…

In the coming weeks, I will be tabling with the Pima County Democrats at libraries around LD9. The Dems are working hard registering Democrats (or encouraging people to switch to Democrat) in advance of the Presidential Primary in March. For this primary, people must be registered as a Democrat or Republican to vote. Independent voters…
