Since I received my $16,000 in Clean Elections funds in June, it been a whirlwind of activity, with three coffees with the candidate, three more house parties, canvassing, phone-banking, and many, events. (I am so appreciative of my volunteers who have helped with by hosting events, making phone calls, canvassing, labeling, and driving me around in the heat from neighborhood to neighborhood. You’re the best, and I will never forget your help.)
The August 30 is just nine days away, and I decided it is a good time to post photos from some of the events.
Don and Kathy Jorgensen gave a highly successful brunch for four candidates: Tom Chabin and Bill Mundell for ACC, me in LD9, and Brian Bickel for Pima Supervisor (not pictured). This was the last house party before the signatures were due.
We had a really big crowd, but it was hot! (Re the weird look on my face, it was either the heat or the astounding data about lobbying efforts, profits and CEO pay that Chabin and Mundell were quoting regarding Arizona Public Service Company and other electric utilities who are fighting rooftop solar. Serious– fighting solar power in Arizona? Vote for these guys for Arizona Corporation Commission.)
Yes, it was as hot as it looks. Here I am collecting signatures and Clean Elections $5s on voting day for Prop 123 in May.
Jim and I did some intense canvassing by bicycle during March – May. We still have these signs on our bikes. Sometimes we get honked at. I’m not sure if that is good or bad. I guess it depends on the tone of the toot (or blare).
Jim and I — plus stalwart volunteers like Barbara, the other Barbara, Beth, Don, Geneva, Susan, and others– collected 277 $5 Clean Elections contributions and ~800 signatures. We turned them all in near the end of May.
Bridget Stoll-Gordy and me with long-time activist Betty Liggins at the Udall Dinner in May.
Progressive candidates at the Arizona Capitol Times event in Phoenix in June: (L-R) me, Mikel Weisser (CD4 House), Scott Prior (LD16 Senate) and Cara Prior (LD16 House). The Priors are also Clean Elections Candidates. Scott and I are co-chairs of the Arizona Democratic Progressive Caucus of the Arizona Democratic Party.
The Pima Dems had a great event for opening of campaign headquarters for Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, who is challenging Senator John McCain. I told her that Southern Arizona was cheering for her.
Ann Kirkpatrick has special ties to Tucson.
There are more events and more photos, but you get the idea. I was busy! Onward to the primary.
